Gallo Arts Center History. The history of the Gallo Center for the Arts began in 1997 when Marie Gallo began researching the possibility of building a performing arts center in Modesto. In 1999 the Gallo family made an initial pledge of 10 million dollars for building the Performing Arts Center. From there, the project quickly built momentum until the recent grand opening in September of 2007.
